A Look Ahead

ELA -

  • In Spalding this week, scholars will continue their normal daily routine, learning 10 new words each day with a 20 word test on Friday. Please ensure your scholar follows all instructions for their homework.
  • In Literature, we will conclude our adventure with Robin Hood and his Merry Men. Scholars have been working hard on their essays to show what they have learned about the themes in this novel. Their final essays are due on 12/10. They have been given class time to complete this task, but they may bring their work home to polish and finalize if they would like. Our celebration for this book is this coming Thursday, 12/9.
  • In Writing this week, our scholars are learning about the expression "belling the cat"--did you know this term originated from a classic fable? Scholars will spend this week reading and studying the fable that it comes from. By the end of the week, they will have written a summary to show what they have learned.
  • In Poetry, scholars have begun memorizing "Paul Revere's Ride" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. This week, they will be working on Stanzas 3 and 4.  Please see the back of your scholar's poem to view our timeline for memorization.

Math -

In Math this week, students will continue practicing how to convert between mixed numbers and improper fractions. We will review this material and take a quiz on Thursday, 12/9. Then, on Friday we will dive deeper into the relationship between fractions and division.

History -

This week our scholars will complete our unit on Medieval Europe with a test on Wednesday. Then, we will head east and begin our nit covering the Dynasties of China!

Science -

This week we will continue to explore the senses, focusing on the relationship between sight and hearing. On Wednesday, scholars will make a model showing the way the senses operate.
