A Look Ahead
ELA -
- In Spalding after break, scholars will continue their normal daily routine, learning 10 new words each day with a 20 word test on Friday. Please ensure your scholar follows all instructions for their homework.
- In Literature, we will begin our voyage with Nathaniel Bowditch with the moving novel, Carry On, Mr. Bowditch by Jean Lee Latham. Follow this link to purchase a copy via Amazon. We are thrilled to begin this heartfelt novel, in which we will explore grief, perseverance, and hope, among many other themes that this book teaches. Scholars will learn many new nautical terms, and we hope that Nat will serve as a role model to them as we begin the new year together.
- In Writing, we are excited for scholars to return to their fable studies after break! They will be reading "The Dog and Her Reflection" and completing writing exercises to support their learning. At the end of the week, scholars will write their own amplification for the fable to stretch their creativity.
- In Poetry, scholars have thus far memorized Stanzas 1-5 of "Paul Revere's Ride" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. After break, they will practice what they've learned and add Stanza 6 to their repertoire.
Math -
As we return from our Winter Break, we will complete our practice of word problems that use fractions. Then, we will prepare for and take our Unit 3 Chapter 6 quiz. On Friday, we will begin our review for our Units 1-3 Cumulative Test. We are so excited for the scholars to show just how much they have learned so far this year!
History -
When we return, we will be learning about the Tang and Song Dynasties in China. Scholars will also get a chance to practice Chinese Calligraphy!
Science -
Next in Science, we will review how animals react to stimuli. We will then see how plants respond to their environment.
